Nestled on the slopes of Haleakala Crater in the heart of Upcountry Maui, is the colorful paniolo town of Makawao. Cooled by trade winds, the rolling green pasture lands and sweeping vistas, Upcountry beckoned to early Portuguese settlers. The Gomes family, built their beautiful home in 1924 within walking distance to Makawao. This house of early vernacular Hawaiian architecture, is a blend of Craftsman’s style elegance and Old World charm.

Having been accepted to the state and national historic register, Hale Ho’okipa Inn, with it’s cook house, stone bread oven, redwood water tower, and majestic Cook Pine tree, remains forever protected for all to enjoy.
