Nestled on the slopes of Haleakala Crater in
the heart of Upcountry Maui, is the colorful paniolo
town of Makawao. Cooled by trade winds, the rolling
green pasture lands and sweeping vistas, Upcountry
beckoned to early Portuguese settlers. The Gomes
family, built their beautiful home in 1924 within
walking distance to Makawao. This house of early
vernacular Hawaiian architecture, is a blend of
Craftsman’s style elegance and Old World charm. Having been accepted to the state and national historic register, Hale Ho’okipa Inn, with it’s cook house, stone bread oven, redwood water tower, and majestic Cook Pine tree, remains forever protected for all to enjoy.
Each room, beautifully appointed with period pieces and local art, offers cable TV. All accommodations include a plentiful country breakfast of fresh fruit, baked goods, cereals, local jams and jellies, coffee, tea and juice served in the parlor. Hostess, Cherie Attix, has lived in Hawaii close to 30 years. Her passions are canoe paddling, hiking and antique dealing. One half deposit is due upon making the booking, if cancelled within 60 days of the booking, deposit is subject to $25 cancellation fee, if cancelled within 30 days of booking, deposit is retained, unless the room is re-booked.
