A Historic Bit of Old Hawaii

Within walking distance from the heart of this charming town is the treasure at the end of the rainbow: The Hale Ho'okipa Inn Bed and Breakfast, a gracious plantation home built in 1924, is now a conveniently located historic guest house on a residential cul-de-sac in Makawao Town. This craftsman's style home is reminiscent of a bygone era with high ceilings, wooden floors, and two separate wings. The interior is invitingly warm, rich in color, local art, and antique furnishings.

The grounds of Hale Ho'okipa Inn Bed and Breakfast are a feast of organically grown tropical fruits, dazzling flowers, and old trees. The lanai offers a view of a truly awe-inspiring majestic Cook Island pine tree.

Upcountry Maui is as colorful as the double rainbows overhead.  Rodeos, art and gift galleries, natural health spas and fine apparel grace the historic storefronts of Makawao, Hawaii. From local plate lunch and international dining to famous bakery cream puffs, and sushi bar, restaurants and after hours entertainment are abundant in this quaint community. For more community news and information, visit Cherie's blog about Maui and Hawaii: Ho'okipa Aikane (Home Sharing Friend).

Be prepared for hiking in Haleakala National Park, Maui, Hawaii, just up the mountain from the Hale Hookipa Inn.

Haleakala (especially crater) Hikers: Over the ankle boots are recommended. Otherwise, bring an extra pair of long socks that you can cut off the toe to slip over your shoes as gators. The small lava is very sharp, foot protection on this long and beautiful hike is important. Also remember that it can get cold, especially at the summit and in the crater, so bring cold weather clothing.

Haleakala Crater, in Haleakala National Park, is very close to the Hale Hookipa Inn, an upcountry Maui bed and breakfast.

Horseback riding
(we'll be happy to make your reservation)

Great Maui horseback riding is less than five minutes away on Piiholo Ranch, one of the most unspoiled ranch and forest lands in upcountry Maui.

"The Ranch was a huge success. Our guide, Beth was wonderful and she gave us lots of historical info on the ranch. Peter is a very likeable and friendly cowboy, proud of his horses and lifestyle. Nice welcoming, breath taking scenery and yummy lunch. We had a blast! The kids are making plans to buy a horse."— Guests of the Hale Ho'okipa Inn
