PAIA
Paia is a bustling beach town with several great restaurants. Mana Foods in Paia is the best food store in all of Hawaii with local fresh organic produce and much more. Small eateries, fine dining, and fun shopping make Paia a great place to visit. This beach community was once a well-populated Plantation town surrounded by Plantation camps for the workers.
Most North Shore water activities mostly take place in the Spreckelsville, Paia, and Ho'okipa areas. This area is a world-class windsurfing and kite-surfing destination. Ho'okipa Beach and Peahi boast big winter waves for experienced surfers. The point at Ho'okipa Beach Park offers a great view of all the surfing and windsurfing action below.
Because the Hana Highway is a well-traveled road, make sure to park in designated areas. The Hana Highway is not for the faint of heart. The scenery along this road is breathtaking and the narrow curves are plentiful.
HAIKU / HUELO
The North Shore also includes the lush area of Haiku and Huelo which have several microclimates. From really wet in the higher elevations to more sunshine and breezy weather, closer to the ocean, Haiku has something for everyone. Small farms on larger lots dot the countryside in Haiku. Small fruit and flower stands are often seen along the roadsides. Haiku town offers dining and some shopping. Locals and visitors alike frequent the small town center.
Haiku's larger lots and open spaces attract Buyers who are looking for room to spread out, garden, and grow fruit trees while enjoying the solitude. The proximity to the North Shore is very attractive to water sports enthusiasts.
